Excessive Daytime Sleepiness (EDS)

Excessive Daytime Sleepiness or hypersomnia is one of the symptoms of sleep disorder.

EDS is an important symptom in detecting the existence of sleep disorders. What are those disorders?

The mildest one is someone could have been really tired and sleep deprived. The busy modern world requires us to be productive, so we often need to sacrifice our sleep schedule. But do you know that lack of sleep will actually decrease productivity? Even your immune system will also decline.

Another possibility is a sleep disorder that I've mentioned earlier, Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) and Periodic Limb Movements in Sleep (PLMS) which cause fragmented sleep.

Perhaps the rarest one is Narcolepsy, where it is hard to resist the urge to sleep that always comes to strike, even in daytime when you are doing activities.

But do not quickly judge that you suffer from sleep disorders just because you feel tired. Look at other factors, such as sufficiency of vitamins, minerals and nutrients.

You may be experiencing Excessive Daytime Sleepiness if you have most of these symptoms:

  •     Always feel tired
  •     Often feel sleepy
  •     Often fall asleep at meetings
  •     Lack of enthusiasm
  •     Difficulty in concentrating
  •     Become forgetful
  •     Declining libido
